Which one would you pick? Is the performance of the GTX really worth the premium price of about 585-400 = 185 CAD?
I'm having a hard time deciding, as I may want to save money to buy a sound system/19" LCD but I don't want to sacrifice alot of performance.
I'm looking at the eVGA 7800GTX KO (490/1300), and the eVGA 7800GT CO (470/1100).
Is the 7800GT overclockable by much? I know the GTX KO can hit 520+ on air.

i am about to give you first hand knowledge of this.

i had a BFG7800GT and it worked fine at 1280X1024 with max settings.

when i got a 21"monitor it wouldent do 1600X1200 with max settings.

i upgraded to the evga 7800GTX @ 470X1200MHz, now it runs fine at max settings. DO NOT GET THE KO, its a waste of money and its the same card as the 470 with ACS3, the only diff is ACS3 VS ACS3+ cooling.

Well the GT has 18 pixel shader while the GTX has 24. I have a BFG Tech 7800 GTX in SLI and it's running pretty good. But cons is the price, so now it would be better to buy the GT when it comes to value. You can pick up one for around $340 and you can SLI it for better performance. But then again sooner or later the GTX price gonna go down anyways, so it won't hurt to wait. But overclocking wise, with a good liquid cooling system, you can achieve higher performance comparable to that of the GTX. But for the best value I would have to go for the GT, got my GTX SLI and now Im broke.

bah, i only save a modest 150 with taxes in...i might aswell get the GTX :p
now i run into another dilemma...the x1900xt is priced at 699 compared to 585...why are they torturing me like this!?
which brand of x1900 is better? Connect3D, or Powercolor.
Interestingly enough, the Connect3D is 100 bux more. Ignore that for now, which is better :)

i say u wait until march, because nvidia will release 2 new cards, 7900gtx an gt, the prices will go down, and after,u can buy a 7800 gtx 512 mb.See the section with new graphic cards... good luck :D

I have a Asus En7800GTX TOP which runs at a Factory OC of 486/1350. I get a 3dmark05 score of 8550 and can easily overclock the card to 510+/1380+ and get a few hundred more 3dmarks. However, I like to stick to the Factory OC, as thats quite enough, and doesnt void my warranty and I don't believe is over stressing my card.

Though I am very satisfied with my Asus card, i hear eVga have an amazing lifetime warranty on their cards and that warranty also covers user overclocking. And if what Scoobertscoobydoo is correct, then you can't loose with eVga.

Btw, with regard to your comment that the 7800GTX KO can hit core speeds of 520+, please note that it has been tested and found that the 7800GTX has some sort of limitation where even if you manage to clock it beyond 520 core, it doesnt give you more performance, and can in fact be the other way round. I read this in a number of reviews but not sure if it was a driver issue which may now have been resolved. Would also like to know if its now possible to gain performance beyond 520+ core on 7800GTX.

I always like to look at it in terms of price/performance ratio. A GTX is X more dollars than a GT and offers Y% more performance. So, say that extra (fictitious) 10% will cost you $150, you have to decide if that's worth it for you!

its about 20% par with all the reviews.

I realize that going over 520 is not a huge performance difference. There has always been ranges where you will see minimal performance improvements in clock speed such as 430-470. I am impressed by the overclockability of it because if you are able to overclock it to 520+ as opposed to Asus TOP's 511, that means if u run the eVGA at 500, it is putting less stress on the card and is more stable than the Asus running at 500 because it still has more headroom to be overclocked. Does that make sense?

Also, with the pricing...I just calculated the differences.
With the 7800GT, I end up paying 223 CAD dollars LESS then if I were to get the 7800GTX. I get additional discounts off the GT and one tax, I don't know what the discount is yet, but that means I'll even be saving more! I'll be paying regular price for the GTX.
Tax in for GT = 450/223 = 2.01 = 50%!!!!!! 50% of the GT's price to upgrade to a GTX. while the performance % is only about what..5-10?

Also with the eVGA step-up program, will I be able to use this even though the place I'm buying it from is a smaller retail chain? It's www.canadacomputers.com

OK is this how the stepup program works?
You register and whatnot, you send in your video card with original receipts, eVGA receives it, they send u back an upgraded video card?
Is this how it works?
I recently had a defective product sent back to Samsung. I fill in a request form, fax it, and they send me a replacement product. They take down my billing info, so I am required to send in the defective item after I receive my replacement item. Which is awesome cuz I don't miss a step.
But from what I've been reading this is not the case with the eVGA stepup program? I send in my video card first (so i have no more video card for games :( ) then a week later I receive my upgraded video card?

yes, you go without for a week while they ship yours.. i plan to overnight it to them on a monday and recieve it back efore friday, no big loss of gaming there.
