I have a Dell Axim5 with a Holux 270 Ultra GPS CF card.
When I run the GPS viewer I connect with at

least six sat's on Comm5, but when I run Pocket Streets
2005, I get the following error message: "The

communications (COM) port is available, but no signal is
being received. Make sure the GP's receiver

is turned on and connected to the correct port"

Can anyone help?

Me too- and I still haven't found a solution yet. I have tried with and
without a null modem adapter too. I got the pda interface cable from
PC-Mobile who had promised to send another to try- they have never said how
to check the cable I've got - perhaps they don't know how their own cables
work or are connected.
(Only one pin of the three needed by GPS seems to be connected when
continuity tested although there are reasons why the connection may not be
detected).

They had promised to send another cable to try, but nothing has arrived
after over a week- the original order just took a couple of days. I'm giving
up hope about them (PC-Mobile) now, but I really don't know why they can't
just say which pin should be connected to which pin, can it be tested by a
continuity meter, and if it can't is there an easy way to test for
continuity?

Is yours a PC-Mobile interface cable? What GPS unit? What pda?

Look through the thread called GPS Problem started by me on 02/09/04 (That
is 2nd September if your American) - there may be something in there that
helps.

If you do get anywhere please post.

The OP is using a CF Card so there are no cables involved.

Don't use Pocket Streets! Seriously though, are you sure GPS Viewer is not
still running? And are you using it in SiRF or NMEA modes?

I had a similar issue with a Garmin GPS receiver. The problem seemed to be
that Active Sync was grabbing the serial port even though I was connected via
USB. I discovered this by installing Streets and Trips on a laptop that
didn't have Active Sync and everything was fine.

I belive that there is a way to tell Active Sync not to use the serial port.
On the Active Sync window click on File and choose Connection Settings.
Uncheck the box for Allow serial cable or infared connection to this COM port.

Good Luck

You could try the following:-

On the menu settings/System use the Dell aplication Task Switcher
supplied with Windows Mobilec 2003, to ensure that Active sync is not
running before trying to use the gps.
