So what? It's one thing to be appointed because you have the necessary skills and because, frankly, diversity helps the administration image.
Becoming head of that elite club run by rich white old people called "political party" is something completely different. I wouldn't even be surprised if a large number of the old white farts that "rule" the republican, or any, party are a bunch of petty bigots and racists.
And even if they aren't KKK members, they sure as hell wouldn't want a woman, especially a black one, as their presidential candidate.
I think Condoleezza Rice will become President in the future. I think it will happen in 2012 or 2016. What do you think?
It be cool for a women to be the president, but I think you will have to wait till all the baby boomers are dead before the common American thinks a women of a black person should be in the white house.
I sorta doubt that "the south", or indeed the Republican party, has enough collective tolerance to vote for a black person, let alone a woman.
Give it a couple hundred years, then maybe.
Time to update your perception of Americans & the South in particular... Right now whites & blacks stand shoulder to shoulder against...Mexicans 8)
Actually, CNN just ran an article on Whites, Blacks, and Mexicans. Overall, Whites and Mexicans more closely share the same view of blacks as any other combination: white/black on mexican, black/mexican on white, white/black on mexican.
And, not to start anything racist statements, but I believe the poll was on viewing other races. White and Mexican both have lesser views on Black, than White on Mexican, Mexican on White, etc.

I wouldn't say hundreds of years before a woman is elected. I would imagine within the next 100 years, quite possibly within our lifetime.
