Forum CPU & Components : CPUs Pentium m 1.6ghz for games please help

I have been looking at new laptops and found the Satellite M30X model on the toshiba website. (i am trading in my old toshiba so i have to buy a toshiba laptop). I have heard that a Pm 1.6ghz was equivelent to a p4 3.2 ghz or there about. Unfortuantly many of todays games have 1.7ghz or more cpu requirements.

Will these higher requirement games work on a pentium m 1.6ghz as it has such good performance?

Thanks

Patrick

Don't look at the requirements. I'm running Need For Speed 5 on a external drive trough USB1.1 with 1.13GHz celeron 120 RAM and 8MB shared VRAM. Works just fine in 1024x768

They will load properly, you know about loading it just depends more on the ammount of ram and the speed of you HDD than anything else.

From what I can find, the Toshiba Satellite M30 has a NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200.

Which should be better than my X200M. From ATI.

Shouldn't be a problem. If it's a requirement of speed, then generally it doesn't matter. If it's a requirement of MMX, SSE, or stuff like that, that matters. If it's a graphics requirement of hardware T&L, that matters. If it's a requirement of xMB of RAM, that matters. But CPU speed requirements typically don't matter. With the wild variations in speed between various Intel and AMD CPUs, CPU speed requirements are more guess than anything, and usually aimed at a P4's speed.

Believe it or not i've never played those games because i never had a computer powerful enough to run them.

That was the problem with my desktop bar half life 2........

Now it kicks ass

Any idea how fear/doom 3/hl2 will run?

You prob. cant do fear, but half-life will do it. I'm on a 2005-ish Dell Latitude d410 with the same Pentium M 1.6 GHz, and I play GTA San Andreas. If it can do San Andreas it absolutely can do Half-life!
