RAID 6 Redundancy

Hi everyone,

I am planning to build a raid 6 array with 8 drives. I was wondering if the raid controller crash, will I be able to throw in another exact same controller without losing data ? Will the new controller recognize the array ? I plan to use the Areca ARC 1220.

Depends on how the controller writes the array information- you will need to check w/ Areca on that. Adaptec and Promise write array config info to the drives so the controller can be swapped w/o any issues. Not sure about Areca.

weird- that doesnt look like what richPLS said at all. Looked like he said "yes" as in yes to the question, would the array still work...

not sure how you translated yes into what you said. Curious to see though what Areca says.
