Just received a Dell with Windows mobile 2003 second edition and I wanted to
remove some of the shortcuts on the today screen and replace them with two
from my programs screen, can this be done.

You can try
Start>Settings>Today>Items and see if they are in the list. If they are
not in the list I'm not sure how to make the addition.

Note: I'm NOT using the SE of WM 2003

Without some third party application, shortcuts to programs do not show up
on the Today screen. You get program shortcuts when you drop down the Start
Menu. The items normally on the today screen are Today Screen applets, such
as Owner Information, the Calendar one that show your next appointment(s),
or the Inbox one that shows mail stats. These aren't program icons. They
can be managed from Start/Settings/Personal Tab/Today Icon/Items Tab. If you
have something that is actually putting program icons on your Today Screen,
that application will be found in the Today Screen Items list, and you
should be able to manage it from there. Usually be selecting it an clicking
options.

Hope it helped at least. If you are looking to put program icons on your
today screen to make accessing frequently used ones quicker, there are
numerous Today Screen Plug-ins that will do that. If you go to the major
software distributors like www.handango.com or www.pocketgear.com and search
for launcher or program launcher, you should find tons. You can even google
for PocketPC program launcher.

If you can live with about six or so favorites, you can select what you want
to have appear in the Start Menu via the settings page, Menus item. You
check the ones that you want in the Start Menu, and the others appear in the
Programs page.
