Hey guys! :D
This would be my first post on this forum so be nice!
Well, i'm building myself my very first computer, purely for gaming, internet, music (burning aswell), and dvd movies. The rig has to be for intense graphics and awesome performance. I have a mouse (Logitech MX518), keyboard (Saitek Eclipse), and speakers (Altec Lansing VS4121 2.1) already, so all i need is for u guys to fill in the blanks lol, i'm going to need everything from a monitor (hopefully a 19' LCD) to thermal paste. I also have a budget of $1,500.00 US with a $200.00 grace. If you guys could help me out it would be great! Thanksss! /bow

Try something like:
Athlon 64 s939 3200+ or faster (or even an X2 dual core)
Gigabyte/Abit/ASUS board (msi=issues, too many)
1gb ram (2x512mb for dual channel) DDR400 (or 2gb even)
Video card - im not up to the times ATM so ask someone (Geforce6/RadeonX or better)
HDD - your choice on brand, size and so on (i prefer seagates, others dont your choice).
Branded 450+w psu

other specs are more user opinionated (case etc)

make sure you get a nice sound card like an audigy - there worth it

"(msi=issues, too many) "

What issues? (I don't dispute there might be several issues I am not aware of, just curious if I should stop recommending my K8N Neo4 board, as it has been rock solid for me)

As for an LCD monitor...

Check Dell's website....

Periodically, they offer the 2001fp (20.1", 1600x1200) for as little as $502, and they offer 19" models for as low as $265-$300...

Both sizes are nice, I own one of each, no ghosting, nice contrast/color...

Let's say you have $1,700 (I'm using your "grace" money)

CPU: X2 4400+ (460)
Case: CoolerMaster Centurian (50)
PSU: Thermaltake Thermaltake PSU IMHO, 500W is a good amount for this system (80)
RAM: 2GB OCZ Plat (220)
Moniter: You can get a solid 19" LCD for 350.
MB: Abit AN8 Ultra (120) or Asus (either way, get non-SLI unless you plan to add another card within 6 months)
DVD/Floppy/Card Reader : 100
Video Card: eVga 7800 GT CO-AX-517 (320).

Totals out at exactly $1,700.

Build your own projector ($400)
Then build a kick ass system:
1700-400=$1300 to spend

X2 4200+ ($360)
7800GT ($300)
Chaintech VNF4 ($70)
2GB Patriot 2x1GB RAM ($160)
WD 250GB 16MB cache HDD ($110)
Raidmax Black Case ($100) The cool looking one
Antec 550W TruePower PSU ($85)
Black Panel DVD Burner ($40)

$1225

There is enough room for shipping and plenty of room to save. Most of these are more higher quality parts, so it is easy to save by getting quality parts. I would recommend a DIY projector if your computing area can suit it. It really depends on the rooms layout, mine works fines and thats why I am building one. Otherwise you can find a really nice 19" for about $250, or $300 for the Hyundai L90d+, personally recommend, if you happen to go with a monitor.

You must have done some nasty favors  for someone to get that PSU for that cheap. I forgot about a sound card, if you want one that is.

I would stay away from some of your friends recommendations.

You can save some money on the case depending on where you look. I love my Antec Sonata, and its only about $100.

I would put more money into the Processor and not get an SLI mobo, unless, as someone else stated, you plan on buying another card with six months or so.

You can get cheaper but still quality optical drives if you shop around.

Unless you are really into music or using it as a Home theater, ditch the sound card, s most mobos have acceptable onboard sound now.

Also, please do yourself a favor, and STAY AWAY from XP Home. Its administration sucks, and you will end up regretting it.

Case: GIGABYTE 3D AURORA GZ-FSCA1-ATB.....$149 (Way expensive)
PSU: ENERMAX EG701AX-VE SFMA (24P) 600-watt.........$40 (More like 140 something less expensive would be fine)
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3500+ (Socket 939)......$219 (get more processor like a 3800x2 or opteron 165)
Mobo: ASUS A8N-SLI ATX......$135
RAM: CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Dual.....$230
Vid Card: eVGA 256-P2-N516 Geforce 7800GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16.......$295 (good for the money)
Opt Drive: Plextor PX-740A.......$93 (thats alot of money for an optical drive)
Floppy: MMITSUMI USB2.0 & FDD Digital Card Reader FA404A/404M....$21 (works well)
HDD: Western Digital Caviar SE 320GB, Serial ATA150.....$160 (recommend getting a sata 3Gb/s aka Sata II)
Sound Card: Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi ExtremeMusic....$130 (get an audigy 2zs same performance only $55 cheaper)
OS: Mircosoft Windows XP Home Edition w/SP2.....$92
Monitor: SCEPTRE X9g-Naga V Black 19" 8ms LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 800:1 0.264mm Pixel Pitch.......$276 (Dell monitor)

Unless you really like that case would it be worth it here is a quality case with door like the one you listed.
$48.99 Thermaltake Mambo

That sound card is really expensive here is a cheaper one.
$75 Audigy 2zs

Hard drive I would recommend.
$159.00 Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 300GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s

$59.99 BenQ Black 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 16X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2M Cache ATA/ATAPI DVD Burner With LightScribe

You dont need a 600watt power supply.
$78.99 ENERMAX Liberty ELT400AWT ATX12V 400W Power Supply
