I have recently built a new rig but my s-ata hard drive is displayed as a "removable storage" icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.

I don't want that icon visible on the display. The only time I want that icon visible is when a usb-memory etc. is connected.

Does anyone know how I can have it removed so it doesn't show up again everytime the computer is restarted?

That's a good question! That icon shows up as some mobos don't support native sata drives.

Try this:

1. Right click in the system tray
2. Select Customize Notifications
3. Click Safely Remove Hardware
4. In its drop down box select Always Hide
5. Click OK

Or this:

Hello,

The reason that your SATA drive shows up as removable storage is because your motherboard supports hot plug, I believe it is called. That pretty much means that you can remove your hard drive while the computer is still running. This might not be a feature that you necessarily need but it may come in handy for some other people who have drives just for media storage. As for the hiding of the icon, that might not be the greatest idea because then it won't show up when you plug in your USB device, as it will still be hidden. I would just get used to the icon being there as it really causes no harm. Their might also be a feature in your BIOS that you can find to turn off the "hot plug" feature of the motherboard. Some more information about your system might help figure that out.

Its its your system drive try updating your chipset drivers.

My Raptor was showing up as removeable storage despite being the system drive and hence not removealbe. After an update it no longer on the list although my other SATA drives are.

There is nothing harmfull or wrong about your SATA drives (correctly) appearing as revmoveable storage. The drives are in fact removeable and the default is for them to be optomized for performance rather then quick removeal so there is no performance penalty.
