I saw newegg is selling a 3000+ venice e6 for ~100. is this an 'upgrade'?

Can anyone tell me if this cpu is any good?

I heard the Venice cpus overclock w/ ease. Usually i just use the my CPU for coding + gaming. Sometimes i worry myself w/ the cpu temps since i run it on a small form factor case.

3000+ venice on newegg

I can only get my 3200+ clawhammer to 2150mhz at best while having to worry about the cpu heat if i'm gaming for 1 or more hours.

Are you asking if you would get a higher OC with a slower but newer core?

I don;t think I'd upgrade based on a "hopeful" OC attempt...

(Yes, some of the Venice cores hit between 2.4-2.6 GHz, and some without even a slight vcore bump, but there is no certainty that an 'FX55 in hiding' has been speed binned into the 3000+ designated pile of silicon!)

When gaming, as long as you are at about 2.2 Ghz or so (3500+), and playing at a decent resolution, the video card is your biggest limiting factor on framerates anyway...

I'd much rather have a $300-$400 video card than a $100 cpu performing like a $400 cpu.....

I checked a bunch of forums and it seems that almost everyone whos ordered one of these have had success of 2600+ on a stock heat sink. For sub 100 dollars, i tihnk its worth it rather than buying a 200 dollar agp card.
