My iPaq 1940 ROM is corrupted, making any USB communication impossible.
Access to SD card is still ok.
Is there any possibility to update/refresh the ROM (enterbootloader ?) from
the SD card loaded with the appropriate binary and then copied by a local
command on the iPaq, without any control from a PC ?

Many thanks

I wonder if a ROM upgrade install would solve the problem. What have you
tried thus far? How did it get corrupted?

My ROM has been corrupted by writing a large file to the Ipaq file store,
exceeding the data area and writing over the program area. This has already
happened some time ago but my pocket was under warranty and HP fixed it for
me. Synchronisation makes him freeze but some other system utilities as
well. When it freezes, I need several hard resets and soft resets to restart
the pocket.
The only option I have is to load a ROM update on the SD card but I don't
know how to flash the pocket.

Thanks for your help.
Alain.

i don't think the update rom able to run from sd storage, i didn't try that
b4.

few conditions for updating rom, one of them is a must to have sync working
properly n with main power supply to ipaq.

since u r having sync problem n it is under warranty, u might as will send
it to hp for service n at the same time request for rom update.

not all rom update r successfully done but my was successfully updated after
it came back from hp service.

another option is to do hard reset on your ipaq n if it can sync (without
all software except the ipaq OS) without freezing then try your rom update.

since updating the rom will also clear all your loaded programs n if it is
successful then reload your software again, do not recover from your backup.

Long shot but you could try getting the image file out of the ROM
update and put that in the root of the SD card, then reboot the
iPAQ with the SD card inserted. how to reboot, i'm not sure.
there are several tricks with key combinations that take the iPAQ
into different modes of operation, I know there are at least two
modes available on PPC's: 'Parrot' mode (used for diagnostics and
flashing over serial lines) and another undefined mode that might
allow one to load an image through a storage card. this was for a
different model PPC though, an Asus I believe. but the backdoor
options might be available. Browse through http://www.handhelds.org
for more detailed information.

This is the point. Even after a hard reset I cannot sync it. But how to
update the ROM without the sync link ?

Thanks
