Is having triple cores possible.I mean look at the xbox 360 it's runnin 3 ibm powerpc procs at 3.2ghz. so is it possible to on pc and i dont mean the article thg did a while ago.

Sure it's possible, but this is not the way chip design is going. Despite IBM's PowerPC for the Xbox 360, chips cores will probably multiply in counts of 2. (2, 4, 6, 8, etc)

This is not fact, so please don't take it as such. Currently, to my knowledge, Intel and AMD only have quad cores on their roadmaps. So I'm just speculating on sextuplet and octuplet cores.

Anyways, no one has 3 core processors on their roadmaps.

maybe in the distant future AMD & Intel could make a dozen cores probably a hundred cores or thousand cores as nanotechnology grows rapidly.... who knows.....

An odd number of core doesn't sound right though, it's like having three nipples! That would be f@cking weird.

Are the quad core cpu's will be using the 45nm or 65nm?

this might be random but.......at tri 3.2 Ghz does xBOX360 beat a high end pc's performance?

Also does xBOX 360 have HDR and shader support?

Reply to style69

No, i don't think so. But for the same price then the xbox 360 would be a good deal. But does the 360 can surf the net for some dirty pictures? I don't think so.

I was always under the impression that the XBox 360 had three individual CPUs, not one 'tricore' cpu. I.e. a mobo with 3 CPU slots.

This is compared to the PS3, which will have 1 cpu, 8 cores (7 useable by the PS3 itself).

mpjesse: I've read somewhere around here on THG that Intel have 6 & 8-cores, due for release tailend of 2k7.

So 4, 6, or 8 nipples would be perfectly normal then?

Absolutely. :-)

On some hawaiin islands woman dance in front of u if you have 3 nipples lol!

I used to know a guy with four nipples. Seriously.

Most people just kept their distance... Probably more because of his habits of never changing his clothes or taking a bath rather than the nipple thing though.

err... Hang on, what's this got to do with CPUs? erm... I know! He had a couple of computers... *whistles innocently*

until we see more progs that support ultra hyperthreading use and multithreaded use, what is the point of having more than 2 unless you burn 4 divx movies at a time? more ghz/cache will be the way to go, at least for awile along.

I saw a review of a dual core dual opteron 275 system (4 cores total). It made a significant difference in programs like 3dsmax, lightwave, etc. I cannot for the life of me find the review right now... but it was pretty damn cool.

EDIT: FOUND IT! Here you go:
http://www.techreport.com/reviews/ [...] dex.x?pg=1

In one 3dsmax benchmark, a Dual Opteron 275 system was over 62% faster than it's Opteron 175 counterpart! Same goes for the POV-Rendering and encoding benchmarks. Read the article... it's really interesting.

So if you're into graphics, rendering, and encoding, a dual Opteron 275 (4 cores total) setup definitely pays off.

Wasn't there some side article on Toms like, 6 weeks back or so about some company (Samsung?) creating a chip with an OCTO CORE?
(yes, 8 cores)

Don't know what kind of chip (might not be cpu related)

Reply to TunaSoda

The 8 core cpu was the new SUN (T10000 or something like that I think).

Three cores would work great. When AMD starts producing quad cores, I hope they will sell any chips that have 3 good and 1 bad core as a working 3 core. It would improve their yield, and they can price it for the enthusiast.

And I am finding lots of games that are using both cores (whether they intended to or not). And the improvement from 2 to 3 cores would be better than the improvement from 3 to 4 cores (diminishing returns).

And if you are planning a DVR project, those extra cores come in real handy when reformatting recorded shows to save space, and scan it for commercials and possible chapter stops.

:p i would like prescott hellaz much if it didn't have heat problems. i mean, that will load windows at 6.6 on LN2, id like to see a dual core beat that kind of power.
