time to build a computer!

your thoughts & suggestions on a gaming rig - no bells/whistles...only massive doses of ram, vram, bandwidth & cpu/gpu power. no need for 8 usb ports, dual core, firewire, bundled applications, neon cases, celebrity endorsed hardware, backward compatability/forward compatability. which o.s.? something abnormal - like frankenstien. can this be built? in the end all is limited by game code? i know little.

Well if money is no object then...

AMD Athlon FX 57 or 60
Asus A8N32-SLI motherboard
2GB of OCZ, Corsair, Muskin, or Geil DDR400 2-2-2-5 RAM (2x1GB DIMMs)
ATI x1900XT (2 for crossfire if you want) or if you don't like ATI, then the 7800GTX 512.
2x Western Digital Raptors (10,000RPM, WD1500AD or the 74GB versions) in RAID 0. If you dun like RAID then just get 1. It'll still own.

How's that? It'll set you back about $2000. Add another $500 for SLI or Crossfire. But it'll be the best damn gaming rig in town- that's for sure. :)

If you have no worry on your money, instead of building it on your own just get an already made one like from Falcon Northwest or from Alienware or from All American Computers....
