Thank you for taking the time to read my posting. I’m new round here and require some help with components for the new PC I am planning to build.

I had choosen upon the dual core 3800+ chip, however I now have slightly more money to spend and wondered if it was worth paying the extra for the dual 4400+?

Is there must difference between the 2 chips or should I just put the money towards some better componants?

Thanks in advance for you help.

LOL... that post wasn't about the X2-3800 or the X2-4400.

My personal take... if money isn't an issue, go with the 4400+... it should be a fairly easy overclock to 2.6 GHz (FX-60 speed) or an overclock to 2.4 GHz would be a no brainer (X2-4800 speed)

if you actually looked at the link it does a comparison of all of the x2 cpu's which is what he needs.

I was thinking about X2 4400+ also. But i don't know how to overclock. I would really appreciate if someone could explain that. Do I need some "special" cooler etc. Thanks

AMD comes with pretty good coolers so you can OC fairly well just on that alone. If your into extreme OC'ing, I suggest you get a cooler to match.

Any tips how to do that?

Hey,

If you are looking at X2's you should also look at the opteron 170-180 series, as they are much better overclockers, the 175's can hit 2.775GHz/core rather easily.

Just make sure to do the research and find the right stepping code for the processor you wish to purchase... All chips are not created equal.

thanks man. according to this, you can oc 170 to 2.9-3.1 and 180 to 2.7? so i guess 170 is better choice then?
