I have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 sound card and recently noticed a strange issue. Since I replaced an old hard drive with 2 SATA 250 GB WD hard drives in an array every time there is hard drive activity i hear feedback on my speakers if they are turned up that sounds like static or white noise of some sort. It is very noticeable if i am listening to music and open a program or try to run defrag or any other utility that accesses my hard drive. It is severe during the windows startup screen when booting XP Pro. It seems to only be associated with hard drive activity and doesn't occur if i am just using my web browser, instant messenger, or any other non HD intensive activity. I never had the problem before i replaced my hard drives and am using the same sound card driver I was before (beta audigy driver with open AL support). If anyone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it.
well... this might not work... ...but since it does seem to be your sound card only having problems really, possibly your SATA controllers drivers... maybe... ...but, you could try reinstalling the sound card drivers, or replacing your sound card beta drivers with non beta versions... and see if that eliminates the sounds your hearing
Well that's strange. I uninstalled the beta driver and installed the latest release driver and the problem is better, but still not totally fixed. Now there is only a slight tearing noise that occurs intermittently when there is hard drive activitiy. It is MUCH quieter than it was before but still noticeable.
well... i guess changing the driver had a major impact on it... so it seems mostly software related, i guess you could try changing settings in the control panels perhaps, either for windows, or for your sound card... again, if theres other drivers available, you could try them as well
