I'm about to buy new video cards and looking around i can get two 6800gs's for around $80 more than the 256mn 7800gtx? i'll be using the machine for games and 3dsmax/maya running on a asus A8N32 SLI Deluxe, 2gb pc4200 ddr2 ram. Which would be better?

I say go with the single GTX. You won't always get the benefits of SLI in games and I don't think you'll get any with Maya or Studio? And perhaps you could add another GTX later when they're cheaper!

I'm sure most of the kids will agree that SLI with high end cards is best when you're running high resolutions 16x12 or above.

The GTX is a great card, but the 7800GT offers about 90% of the performance for only $280 when the 7800GT is on sale...; most GTXs I have seen are running at least $100 more...

A single 7800GT is a nice single card solution for the money; good framerates at decent resolutions for ALL titles available, FEAR included...

you could try two 7800 GT's, are a better choice, instead of 7800 gtx 256 mb

The 7800 GT is not bad at all in SLI. With the GTX you pretty much get a higher pipeline.
