I'm just going to go ahead and link all the parts off of Newegg out of laziness, even though some parts have been bought elsewhere and most haven't been bought yet, but will probably be ordered some time next week. I'll indicate what parts have NOT been ordered yet (with a *), in case anyone has any suggestions/recommendations on those.
RAM isn't included in the list because I haven't finalized my decision on anything specific, and because I know too many people with plenty of spare sticks of every type of RAM available...
Either way, the RAM is not the issue.
The issue is that I have no idea of what I'm supposed to be specifically looking for in a Power Supply. I know it should be 24-pin, to be compatible with the motherboard, and I know I'd, at the very least, prefer something 500w+, but I'm not savvy on brand reliability, compatibility, or explodability (yeah, that's a word now).
Right now, my instincts are pointing towards the Ultra X-Finity due to cost, looks, and a longer warranty, but I'm concerned that this may be a Substance vs. Style decision, and I want to make sure I make the right choice.
P.S. Any other comments about my selections in hardware are welcome, especially, as I said, recommendations for parts not ordered yet that have similar, or better, specs than the ones listed, without going above the listed price for said part(s) too insanely.
P.P.S. Yes, I am aware of the BIOS problem with the video card I've selected, and how to remedy it.
Well of the two PSU you listed I've heard the Ultra's are HORRIBLE, basically I've read they are utter crap as I was briefly looking into them.
I actually have the Enermax Liberty 620W and it's a beast with tons of power and amps and super, super quite. I love modular, I will never go back. Of those two I recommend that one but that's not to say there aren't many other good ones.
Enermax, Antec, Fortron, Hiper to name a few
What I was told by wusy when looking for a PSU is dual 12V rails and at least 18A per 12V rail was good.
That's about the extent of my knowledge on PSU, for not, at work so I don't have a whole lot of time to think about it.
Yeah definately stay away from the Ultra units. I just replaced one last week that had dead fans and it burned up. It was only 7 months old too. The enermax unit is much better IMO. I personally prefer Antec units and that's what I use.
The rest of your hardware selections look pretty good to me. Good luck with it.
First, that build would not remotely need an 850 watt. It would get away with a decent 450W or so. Second, I doubt the OP even cares anymore, seeing as this is three and a half years old.
