Hey,

I have about $700 to spend on just CPU, mobo, memory, case/powersupply and video card. 8)

I am just looking for good gaming and would like to get PCI-E if it fits in my budget. Could you make some recommendations on a setup? :D

Why don't you read the hundreds of other threads exactly like this one before you post?

In there you can find a setup that's along the lines of what you're looking for. We're not here to do your investigation for you.

You go find out what you think would be good for you and then list off the components for us and we'll give you our opinions.

No, I don't have to "re-lax" I see WAY too many people who want someone else to research their system for them, just so they have to click on the checkout button. That defeats the purpose of buiding your own system. The great thing about building and piecing together your own system is that you are making something that is yours. That's the joy. When you ask for someone to tell you what to buy, you might as well go buy a Dell or Gateway, you would pretty much be getting the same thing.

Anyway, enough of the senile rants.

That setup looks great, but maybe you could find a cheaper 7800gt. if you really need to downgrade something, I would suggest maybe only getting 1gb of the ram and buying the other shortly down the road. Other than that, i can't think of a way to reduce costs while maintaining reasonable performance. Just try to shop around. Get the best prices you can. Also, you probably won't get the best prices by buying from just one retailer.

hey you know what we should do  piss people off by giving them the wrong info and building a horrible system, horribley cruel but insanely funny to see the blindness of someone who is that lazy :D .

I agree with the RAM downgrade to 1GB, that's all you really need these days even with BF2. See this article to make up your mind: http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/12/13/how_much_ram_do_you_really_need/

You could go with a socket 754 board and the Sempron 64 3100+ (make sure it's the version with 64 turned on as there are older ones without it). That would be cheaper (about $50-70) and it would still give you plenty of gaming performance. However, your upgrade options would be limited since this socket is being phased out.

That antec PS looks to be OK for a 7800gt. The key spec is the 12v rail, 20A or better is what you're looking for. This one has 32A (15A + 17A).

Shop around a bit for the 7800s, the prices vary quite a bit and some have mail in rebates or games bundled with them.

Thanks for the info. I will dig further to see if I can get a deal on the 7800GT and downgrade to 1GB. Please don't mistake my vagueness for laziness. I was vague because I have no alligiance to any particuliar setup, whereas 5 years ago I had an exact config in mind. Hopefully no offense taken.

2GB is needed for BF2, that article is highly flawed. Who here plays BF2 on 800x600 with a 7800gt. Its well know the higher the settings and resolution the more ram you need for best performance.
With 2gb on bf2 you can run all high with no stuttering and fast load times, most people see it use 1.2gb on high settings.

Ahh... none was taken. I was just touchy because there's so many threads where people seek constant peer acceptance on their system, when it's not up to us, it's what feels good for you.
