G'day, I have a P3 @997mhz with 256mb PC 133 ram on an IBM6578TBA Motherboard running on Win XP Pro. It has the IBM bios 1010 (23/02/01) and obviously has no overclocking capabilities  . Is there a way I can get some (BIOS updates etc.). If not, no probs I got the puter for free :D but if so, Tweaking is the way to go. If its possible i'm going to make a rig to duct the cpu (and maybe GPU) to get slightly better temps. Any ideas? It is in a 'dell' style horizontal case. I turned to you guys because the folk at casemodgod (1337 site) aren't into the techie side as much as you guys. Please help.

Coppermine core can't really get higher than that, many of us remember the fiasko with the 1.13 PIII. It would be a miracle if you could get it to work steady above 1049.. I really don't think it can be overclocked..

Hi.
My Coppermine, boughted about a month ago, is running perfectly stable at 1200 MHz (7.5x160) with a default voltage. I did manage to make it 1245 MHz (fsb@166 MHz) and did boot to windows with no problems at all, but "MemTest 86+" reportred some memory errors.
It's probably a MBO that makes a difference. And RAM too.
I suggest that you try to get ASUS CUV4X or ASUS CUSL2 motherboard.
My ASUS CUV4X-E cost me about 20 €.

I wish you luck.

EDIT:
I forget one thing - a temperature is about 30°C idle. :D

may the "softfsb" is a good choice for you to have a try
but the high FSB may case the damage to the certain equipments(IDE,DIMM,etc..)

I wonder if the problem he's having isn't more along the lines that the BIOS doesn't allow FSB or voltage selection - for what I know of IBM BIOSes, they don't let you modify much (I'd be surprised if you could modify RAM timings...)
