i have the asus a8n-sli deluxe which looks like this

i also have just the bog standard 2 speakers with 1 cable

now, out of those 6 sound outputs, which one should i be using? Using the driver i can only get sound if i change the sound mode to 8 channel and stick my speakers into either the rear speaker out/side speaker out/centre out.

I dont get any sound plugging them into the line out, is this correct?

i do not know what to do.

You should be using the line out. - lime green color.
Double check the settings in windows that its set to just desktop speakers - 2.0.
Also check any software that came with the motherboard to make sure its set to just desktop speakers.

ok i changed both to desktop speakers but i still get this error message on muy driver software
