Hi,

I have setup RAS on a win 2k server at a local office. The ISP we have
at local office uses DSL modem (PPPoE) and assign us a dynamic IP. I
used DDNS to make sure I know where my VPN client should connect to
and all worked well without much problem from home to local office.

Now, I setup another RAS on another win 2k server at the head office
witch uses an ADSL modem (Static IP). However, wherever I try to
connect, I get Error 721: the remote computer is not responding error.

I have checked the settings many many times at both local and head
office and they are exactly the same. On both routers, I forwarded
port 1723 requests to my RAS. All settings on RAS are identical. Also,
when I do VPN requests to connect to the RAS, I do see the requests
going to the right machine and the machine replied to the client
machine through port 18xx from router log.

What I really don't understand is why the VPN connection was
established at local office but kept getting error 721 at the head
office.

The only difference between the 2 places:

1) local office uses DSL (PPPoE) and head office uses ADSL (Static
IP). However, according to my ISP, the ADSL let everything through.
(guess that ruled out the possibility that my ADSL modem does not
support GRE-protocol 47)

2) Both offices use Linksys BEFVP41 as router, but the local office
uses firmware 1.40 but head office uses firmware 1.41. (I could
downgrade the firmware for head office to see if this helps) However,
according to the firmware history, they provided better firmware
support in the newer firmware that my head office is using.

Any help would be much appreciated.
