Not enough space in c drive

Hello,
I have windows 7 home basic system, i hav 76% i.e. around 350GB free space in my c drive. But when i go for partition and click on shrink volume it shows only 40mb available.Before 1day it was showing 0 space available... pls help.. thanks

Could you please elaborate.

You can not always shrink the System Volume, certainly not by the amount of free space on it. You could try defragmenting the disk and then trying the shrink again, but even taht might not work.
