Ink ran out, magenta replaced with a new cartridge still says the cartridge
is empty, tried installing and reinstalling several times, still says it's
empty. Any help would be appreciated.

Look for the contact points at the rear of the cartridge well. They are
extremely brittle so clean them with care with a small cotton bud - by
stroking only down. A little acohol may help. They can and do sometimes fail
to make contact - usually caused by smeared ink. It therefore means the old
cartridge is still registering. Clean the cartridge contact points as well
and reinsert.

1) Make sure cartridge is fully inserted in slot
2) make sure the chip pad is on cartridge and is clean
3) Make sure chip contacts in printer's carriage area are not damaged,
bent, dirty or missing
4) Occasionally, sequencing gets messed up and the printer reprograms
the chip to empty during a change over, especially if you tried to trick
the printer to do something in some manner that it normally is not
supposed to do (like forcing a cartridge of some type).
5) If this cartridge is from a refiller, or a 3rd party, they might have
neglected to reset the cartridge. If this is the cause, ask the
refiller to reset the chip to full.
6) Occasionally, brand new cartridges have arrived incorrectly
programmed. If this is the case, contact the ink company (Epson or
whomever) and request a replacement.
