I have a ASRock mobo (Dual SATA 939 socket series [the one that has AGP and PCIE slots]) that is made fro PC400 ram. I have two sticks of Corsair Value Select (im poor, dont hate) that are PC333. Today, while i was almost done downloading FreeBDS i pop in a cd that had an ISO image of puppy linux live to erase the CD. It never spun up so i piulled it out andhte my computer did a virtual memory dump and restarted. it wouldnt boot up afterwards so i did a memory test using a Suse 10.0 linux cd and it showed no errors. I ended up reinstalling windows. Now im worried that since i, using pc333 its ruining the ram and/or mobo. So, do i have anything to worry about? or shoudl i just relax? my setup is as follows:
Thermaltake Xaser case (not using the firewireport)
ASRock 939 Dual SATAII series mobo
Antec SmartPower 400w PSU
AMD Athlon 3200+ CPU
Corsair PC333 Value Select 1gb ram (2x512)
Maxtor 40gb 7200rpm ATA hdd
Maxtor 10gb 5400rpm ATA hdd
Asus cd/dvd burner
Won't make a bit of difference, assuming the ram is sound. Heard some not so great things about that board, but I can definately tell you it won't do any damage.
my ram is fubar now. moral of the story, follow what the manufacturers suggest. im gunna call corsair and see if theyll be homies and gve me some ddr400 in exchange for the ddr333. adn yes, i tested the ram.
That's crazy, I've used hundreds of corsair ram sticks and never had one die. Check voltages in the bios right after you get the new ram in and make sure the bios is up to date.
