Canon S630 Printing Problem with WinXP

I have a Canon S630 printer, which functioned and printed without error in
Win ME. I have installed the latest Canon driver for WinXP, but have a
constant print problem.

I have an HP Media Center PC m1170n that came with WinXP & SP2 preinstalled.
I am also using a parallel printer cable instead of a USB cable. I have
searched and read a few posts that state their Canon S630 prints fine in
WinXP, so I really don't know what is wrong with my set up.

A page only prints halfway through on the first pass, then prompts for
another sheet of paper and only prints 1 or 2 more lines. It then flashes
the green light only and hangs up. I have to then go into the Printer
Status window and cancel the print job manually.

Does anyone know what the problem might be?

I look forward to any help and suggestions.

Thanks,
Tanya =)

Did you by any chance do an "Upgrade Install" of Win XP over ME?

I followed your step by step instructions. When I was doing the Add/Remove
Programs, I noticed 2 Canon S630 items. I successfully removed one, but the
other said it couldn't locate the uninstall, and it has left this item
hanging in the list. Is there an easy way to get rid of the dangling item?
After reinstalling the new driver, I was only able to print 1 page correctly
and completely. Then it went back to printing half page, and then more when
it prompted for another page.

Some additional details... I have the parallel cable attached to my Zip
drive, and the Zip drive to the computer. I have noticed that it takes a
long time for the print job to get to the printer, and most times the
printer status box comes up and says "Printer not responding" before it
begins to print.

Again, I look forward to all possible help.

Thanks,
Tanya

Bruce Sanderson has an excellent article on how to blitz!
http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm

Another problem you have is the piggy-back issue. XP does not support
connecting parallel devices in this way. Can you use a USB port for the
printer instead?
