Hi

4 of my PCI slots work, but one doesn't. I replaced the mobo on wednesday (exactly the same model). I plugged the PCI cards into the same slots and fired it up.

My TV card did not work, so i put in another slot and worked fine. I tried a modem in the slot, but windows did not detect any new hardware and I had no unknown devices (or modem) in device manager.

I have tried all the other slots and devices work fine. could this be a mobo fault or do I need to change some settings

Thanks

Dave

RMA it if you still can. Its not natural for a mobo to do things like that. Get rid of it for replacement before it gets worse.

I thought as much, only had it 2 days, wanted to make sure before I send it back, that there was no other possible cause.

It has been locking up as occasionally as well, all othe parts work fine in my old PC, so must be the mobo.

I'm not having a good week!!! 1st mobo dies, the replacement is faulty!!!

Thanks

They probably "repaired" your mobo and sent it back to you !

repaired? chuck dont you mean repackaged?

That's completely normal. It's caused by busmastering devices and shared PCI slot IRQ's. Many busmastering devices simply will not share an IRQ with another busmastering device.

Actually it's completely natural for a motherboard to do this stuff, though not as common today.
