Hi there,

Today i have just received my BFG 6800 GS OC, and i cant exmplain how wonderful it is :D so far all the games that iv played are running on high graphics and 1280x1024 resolution..

anyway, i have noticed that the idle temperature for my VGA is 51c. After playing NFS Most Wanted for lets say 2 hours, the temperature went up to 65c. should i be worried?

I was wondering if anybody could recommend me a VGA cooler. So far i have been looking at:

Main page of VGA coolers

Vantec Spectrum Fan Card looks quite nice. it fits in the PCI slot below the VGA.

Which one would you recommend?

Thanks

No, newer BFG card temperature threshold is usually over 100c. So youre pretty much safe. Beside if that thing get toasted below the threshold, the lifetime warranty would cover it. My 7800GTX goes over 60c but Im not worried about it. Its perfectly normal.

As the other guy said cooler is better. Get some more airflow going inside your case like punch a hole in the side and place a fan for intake. Did mine and it helps a lot.

NV silencers are very nice coolers, as is the Zalman vf700

side note: thermaltake has some fancy-schmancy vga liquid cooler that is more show than go if you ask me, but it's something you could look at

Or you could just pick up some AS5 and apply it to your VRAM and core.
That dropped my 7800GT down another 5-7C.

6800 and 7800's begin to threshold @ 105 and underclock 110C as 115C is critical and causes physical GPU damage.

NV Silencer is probably your best bet.
I had one sitting on my X800proVivo. Idle'd 46C and load 57C that was
with 16PP and 535/1125

The Accelero X1 which is supposed to come out sometime this month suposedly looks good and is quiet.

The Silencers seem to get good reviews as well.

Something as simple as an intake fan may help, a 120MM fan can move a lot of extra air over the coolers.

These are completely normal temperatures and very far off from causing any damage to your card. Unless you plan to overclock it further, you have no need for a new cooler.

Don't worry about those temps.

BFG has a lifetime warranty. Even if it does die out on you, you can get it replaced. I wouldn't worry about temps unless you notice something odd like getting no video signal after an extended amount of play time or artifacts.

However, if you're THAT concerned about it, you can't go wrong with an AC Silencer or a Zalman.
