Not always the cheapest or best parts, but most are respected, tested and typically have good support base (many sold) for a balanced system (price vs performance). These are complete systems designed for the average user. Tweak away. These systems are not weak – they will compete very well with systems in their price range. Prices are before shipping also.

Note: Had to work this one with a lot of combo deals so I did compromise a little for a better price.
Though I am sure some could come up with ‘better’ deals, most will be due to skimming on things I personally wouldn’t want to or sacrificing some parts. All in all, both systems will do fine with most games. The second system could go with a single core CPU and that money could go into another gig of memory (2x1GB sticks), but most will agree that the 1GB mark is still the sweet spot thus me going with a bigger CPU. One could argue an Opty would be better and I agree but that would take it past the 1,000 mark and better memory would be advised if you are going to OC – again, raising the cost. Anyway, these are just some samples.
