I have a 920 d as well.

I don't have watercooling, but i also don't overclock. I have a zalman cnps9500.

Before with the intel fan i was idling ~ 50 and hit 80 (deg c) after 3dmark 05.

With The zalman, i idle at ~40 (33 if i open my window on a cold day), and haven't seen a 50 deg temp yet. Its really good at keeping temp fluctuations under control.

The zalman costs 60 bucks. Like i said, im not sure what kind of temps youll be dealing with if you over clock.

Thx for the info man. Yeah im thinking about getting the liquid cooling system because its only like 60 bucks more then a good cooling fan. Have u tried overclocking it?

My Intel is OC'd and I use a zalman air cooler. Temps stay right around 33-34C idle and 47-50C under full load. Can't complain about it at all.

I also have a 920 that is idle at 50C and hits at 68C under a load. This is with an Arctic-Cooling Freezer Pro 7 and Arctic Silver. I was disappointed the temps didn't drop from the stock intel HSF to the AC Freezer Pro. Do you think going with this Zalman (cnps9500) fan would drop the temps more than the Freezer Pro? I'm willing to try it if you guys think it would help. By the way, no OCing at all.

I have a cnps9500 and my computer is currently idling at 38-40degrees. The layer of AS5 i applied was VERY thin (ive heard too much negates its "wondeful" effects).

I would say my room temperature right now is about 68-70 deg F (with it being winter and all). If my room was considerably warmer, my CPU temp would obviously be higher.

However, i must say, I have yet to see a temp over 50 deg C (even after 3d marks cpu tests) with the zalman...so it works very well.

Other factors on temp include case clutter/ventilation, # of additional fans...etc.

I don't know if 68 deg temps are cause to go out and buy a new cooling system. Maybe reworking your current one can tweek it a bit. With my intel stock fan i was getting 55 degs at idle and 80 degrees at load....this i didn't like at all, so i got the zalman.

thanks for that info jhkokst. I have only one round ide cable and 2 sata cables. It's a very open case with 1 120mm intake fan and 1 120mm outtake fan. Room temp is about 66F. I think maybe i'll try reapplying AS5 - this time making sure its VERY thin. And I'll also try the 3d marks CPU test to find out the max temp. I'll post again when I see the results.

I use a Zalman cnps7700-Cu, 120mm fan all copper heat sync.. on my p4 530 (3.0ghz) I ide at about 40c with the room around 15c, and ive seen it reach 65c during gaming. Also as the tomshardware research into using silver oxide compound, i just saw it the other day, these temperatures were after applying it. Before i could easily see 55 ide and it would get hot enough id notice games just decided to slow down once in a while. Not a problem since the good stuff.
