Going to buy in the next hour or so, Turion ML-40 or Intel ?

First off I posted in the laptop section and NO ONE replied... There's alot of traffic in here so i figured i'd get your opinion. I can get an HP Pavillion laptop with a turion ml-40, 1GB ram, 80GB hd, 15.4 screen, yadda yadda for $1000. Question is... If i go with intel, what is equal or better than the turion for that price range? Pentium M 735 740 750 ?? I'm learning all the systems with the intel chips have 512mb ram, 60gb hd, everything is smaller, yet the price is more... I am going to use this to surf the wireless web at a coffeeshop and play a music dvd every now and then, but still want the performance there if needed later on, thanks for reading.

[/quote]Leason learned well. Well done!

It's just a microsoft bug causing an energy leak.
They are the best chip out there. More energy consumption than a M is understandable.

*just waking up from fainting*

I can't freakin believe I actually found a thread that supports Intel! What has this world come to. I certainly thought for sure these forums were for flaming Intel and that's it. Wow, what a turnaround.

Core Duo SUCKS, they eat up so much power they're pointless.

For a laptop, get Intel, they have better battery life, and have little better performance.
Wait, are you saying that duos are not intel? What planet did you wake up on this morning?

Yes, piddy did have it right, intel is better for laptops in most situations (I'm not trying to be a fanboy, just telling the truth).

Well, if the patches work (i'm not saying they all do), what is the problem? Plus, as you have seen, mac is not as invincible as it is cracked up to be.

Yeah, I think I have heard of earth before...is it that big round green and blue ball? Don't make fun of me if it isn't, the last thing you want is us aliens to attack you.

It is not hard to install the patches, but I agree, MS needs to get its act together. They did not have all the idiotic problems in the past; you would think that since they have had windows for so long they would know what they are doing, but I don't know...

ME?! What are going to do when it is totally unsupported, go to linux? Or since vista is quite possible froggy too, will you just go to xp?

Well, Windows is a very fast, safe and reliable OS. As long as you don't download viruses, spyware and surf porn sites, your fine! just kidding

I do agree with the whole microsoft thing and all the patches do get annoying but, they do have perform maintenance on it just like we do with computers. You don't maintain it, it fails.

Microsoft Windows is a decent OS. You can thank all of those who have no time on their hands and have nothing better to do, that keep hacking it. On the other hand, if we didn't have those guys around, Microsoft wouldn't be doing anything about the holes in its OS.

Yeah, I'm thinking of going to vista in the future because it is supposed to be better for video/picture editing...it is also supposed to be more secure...I'm just hoping they are right his time (they said this about xp too, while advertising).

Must have posted at the same time...yeah, but if there was no hackers, the holes would not be a problem, and they would not be holes at all, if you know what I mean.

Well, I hope Vista is a much better answer too and I agree. I believe there are simply still too many Windows users out there and I think they will pretty much switch no matter what.

Maybe MS is just getting too confident. Thinking they can do whatever they want, and so far that strategy has worked for them although it has angered quite a few consumers.

Splendid
I hope I'm not too late.
You are not buying a chip, I guess, so much as a complete package.
The dothan chips are slightly better than the Turions, but bothe are quite good.
What you need to look at is the other components, in your price range. From your original post, it looks like the Amd setup has the better parts. That isn't uncommon in a $1000 laptop.
You do need to check the rotation speed of the hdd, and the quality of the gfx. An add-in gfx card is best, but an Ati/nvidia onboard is better than any other onboard.
You also have to look at the different sceens to see which one you prefer.
512 ram is not really enough any more, but you can add more latter, so that isn't a big deal.

Well, I think like Intel, MS has learned from its mistakes and maybe will come out with a better product but who knows. We'll have to wait and see. I don't have the Vista beta downloaded but from what I have heard, its full of bugs which to me is normal nowadays.
