I hope this question hasnt been asked 100 times but im going to be buying a new comp soon and like lots of you the whole SLI/crossfire thing seems a little bit wastefull. If i go with a FX-60 mobo put one 512 7800gtx in now and wait till some point in the future and get another when there not so expensive will they be compatible? Its just every card maker has slight differences; if i have a bfg now and get a chaintec later will it work? Any help here would be great!

What prozac said...one top end card will do'ya. I have an sli setup with 2 gtx's...not much of a noticable gain at all for all that extra money.

who told u that a BFG and a Chanitech will work in SLI?Wrong. It will work only with a BFG, probably with a different bios version(nvidia say that we can use 2 cards in SLI from the same manufacturer, with diff. bios versions)

I predict the Geforce 7800GTX 512MB will be hitting it's EOL very soon

yeah, if you're looking to do all this i'd sit on it for a month or two. nvidia's "7900" will be out very soon. wouldn't you like to see what kind of performance it brings to the table before blowing thousands on dual GTX 512's?

just a thought.

i wouldn't even bother getting sli unless you REALLY want your fps from 78 to 85. That setup is an especially big waste of money considering some things don't benifit at all from sli, some things react worse to 2 cards, and the x1900xt is half the price and is a better performer than 2 gtx's usually.

That's cool man. With 7800GTX 512 I don't think you need to SLI it yet. It should be able to play games with 1600x1200 resolution no problem. Maybe a year from then you would need to sli it when games would become more demanding. :D
