Hello, im new to this forum and i have a question.

I recently bought a gateway GX7002E and i have questions about overclocking the cpu or ram because my friend told me that it's bios and multipliers were locked since it was from a vendor like gateway, dell (etc)

My specs are:

Pentium D 830 @ 3.00 Ghz ( i think their based off of celeron cpus?)
2 Gigs of ram 512 x 4 pc4200
6200 fx tc @ 64 mb emulating 256mb (sux ass)
Generic Pentium 945gbi mobo
integrated sound and lan

Yeah, that is usually the case man. Buying a PC from a major vendor usually means they're locked up tight. You can go into the BIOS and see if it has an unlocked multiplier but I doubt it very much. Its a shame too, that processor has alot of potential to clock high.

That processor is a pentium 4 and not a celeron based core. Its probably the Smithfield core.

Sorry to say, you won't be overclocking to any degree (If at all). Vendors lile that generally lock out overclocking options in the BIOS. Aside from that, the parts they use are lower quality and not really capable of handling overclocking.
