On my old PC I had a free Mustang that I had downloaded for FS9 that had won
awards etc and was excellent. Needless to say after a PC problem I can't
find it.
Any clues/recommendations where I downloaded it from?

Might be Shigeru Tanaka's P51d. Try flightsim.com and search under his name,
or for STP51D.zip. Clear Skies.
