Ok i want to upgrade and have a $700 dollar budget maybe more. i have a p4 3.06 HT p4 running os on raid. the problem i have ran it to with upgrading is there is no motherboard out there that suports a 478 chip set with pci xpress and has raid built in. Is there anything out there that i can upgrade to that is good for gaming (bf2,fear,ect..) and videoediting?

A 3.06/533 performs about the same as a 2.8C/800 Northwood core, and, although certainly not the fastest cpu out there, the largest factor affecting your framerates will be the video card, and even moreso as you crank up the resolution/eye-candy...

Although you can't find any cards rivaling 7800GTX/1900XT performance in AGP format, there are still some decent AGP format video cards, namely the 6800GS and X850XT variants; this should extend the gaming life of your current rig by perhaps a year. (What sort of video card are you currently using?)

(BF2, by the way, really likes at least 1 GB of RAM, and 2GB is even better)

What kind of video editing.
If you just put that in to say you want to stay with Intel, that's cool.
You are in a funny situation. That chip is not generally still available. It is also the fastest chip that a lot of boards can handle. It should have a high resale value.
I would recommend selling it, and moving to a new socket, that does support your needs.

Stop, the 9800 better than the x1300 dont even contemplate that as an upgrade.

If your sticking with AGP max it out with the x850xt it will last you the longest.

No. The 7800GS is BETTER than the X850XT. Also, the 7800GS supports SM 3.0, which will provide better graphics than the X850XT's SM 2.0. Read tomshardware's review on the 7800GS; it surpasses the X850XT and is LESS expensive. I should know because now I'm kicking myself in the head for buying an X800XT, when I could have spent $30 more for a faster 7800GS...
