serial ports

well, i have a asus p4g 800e deluxe and i´m not able to establish connection betwen the pc and a dvd player througt the serial port. The bios identify 2 serial ports but i only have 1...i tried to connect a ps/2 mouse to the port using an adaptor and it also did not work...cold it be because of the location that the bios give to the serial ports? I also tried to mesured the voltage in the 3.3v pin(in the cable) and it gives 0.0. I tried it in another pc(older but excellent ) and i´d got no results.Someone can please help me.

DVD player connection is made to the sound card as far as I know...

well, i know that, but i´m trying to update a dead player (firmware), not liste some music...i´m trying to connect the pc to the dvdplayer to update the firmware...

Most mice don't work with adapters. I've been selling computers since 1998 and actually been through the transition with used systems, most PS/2 mice quit supporting the adapters around 1999.
