Remember that STAR into KOAK with the 32mile leg at 10'000?
Is it permissible to run it at 10'100 or 10'500 ft. and 310kts?
That's above the 10k altitude for 250kts speed limit.. correct?

While on the subject.. how to apply the 10'000 ft. speed limit of
250 kts for airfields at altitude? Is it 10k ASL or AGL? Seems
a trivial question but important for correct Sim.

The AIM indicates the following.

http://www.faa.gov/atpubs/ATC/Chp5/atc0507.html

NOTE-
1. A pilot operating at or above 10,000 feet MSL on an assigned speed
adjustment greater than 250 knots is expected to comply with 14 CFR
Section 91.117(a) when cleared below 10,000 feet MSL, within domestic
airspace, without notifying ATC. Pilots are expected to comply with the
other provisions of 14 CFR
Section 91.117 without notification.

And doing a google on

14 CFR Section 91.117

you will find many more references.

Lots to read over.. here's a clip that's comprehensible;

If it is necessary to level off at an intermediate altitude
during climb or descent, advise ATC, except when levelling
off at 10,000 feet MSL on descent, or 2,500 feet above
airport elevation (prior to entering a Class C or Class D
surface area), when required for speed reduction.

So then it's understood 10,000 MSL or 2,500 ft AAE.. and also one
must pay attention to the Class type regions (airspace)?.. as in the
blue hatched areas displayed on FSNav. Take El Paso for instance
which is EL ~4,000 ft.. I just want to know when to slow down.. and
mostly wanted to descend into and run that Oakland approach
segment and a good clip!! yep in the Boeing jetliner. Fun isn't it :)

This is why I prefer helicopters. Don't have to worry about that. :)

You should find yourself IRL in a small plane coming down the ILS when
the tower asks you to keep the speed up as you have a DC-9 coming up
behind. <:))

Roger.. the 4y/o nephew is here tonight and he says the small planes
are `putt-putts'.. now who taught him to say that? :]

The last sentence above should read `at a good clip'. Was descending
at ~335kts and levelled off at 10,000 ft .. then manually throttled UP
and she settled around 307kts for the next 25 - 30nm.

We run the Sim with sound turned up medium-loud.. with sub-bass unit.
