I'm a newbie, but I can already fly the Cessna 172 well enough to have fun.
My only problem is landing.......I land great, but I seem to drift off of
the runway.....I hope practice will help.....I'm working on it.

I live in South Texas, in-between San Antonio and Brownsville. In this
area, called both "The Coastal Bend" and "The Wild Horse Desert," there are
many VFR flyers, because of the easy-to-follow terrain.

I know that both MS and other groups make scenery add-ons. I "Googled" for
it, but cannot find a scenery add-on for this most southern area of Texas.

Any help or suggestions? Thanks in advance. This is a great group. Jim

Jim.. can I comment here. There's a field at Del Rio.. and if one
flies around the bend.. `Big Bend National Park' that is.. and along
the Mexico boarder on up to El Paso.. that's a trip with much to see
from the Simulated air. FSGenesis has a BBNP mesh.. IIRC.

Great to see from the ground IRL also! Last time there we got caught in a
full blown blizzard when driving back to Alpine where the RV park was
situated in a pecan grove - spend an extra couple of days laying around
letting the drifts clear before hitting the road again. hehe, the next
morning we opened the trailer door to let our Schnauzer do her thing, and
she disappeared in ~2' of snow... Retirement is good!

A big "Thank You" to those who responded to my post.

FSgenesis fixed me up with some great terrain that was easy to install, and
covers the Southeast, from Florida to Mexico. Lots of fun. Justin treated
me right.

Msfsgateway is a neat resource with a lot of super links.

And, Gregory and Crash are right about Big Bend.....it's a lot of fun. As
for Alpine, good friends, Robert and his wife, helped to run the McDonald
Observatory, which is in the Big Bend area. Several times a year, they hold
large "sky parties" there. They are known for their "good sky" (even the
town cuts off its street lights.)

Again, thanks for your help.....it was a thrill to fly over my own tiny
ranch and then land at the local strip....GPS rules! Jim

Most scenery add-ons consist of adding buildings and landmarks in small
specific area and that wouldn't help you in your quest for VFR scenery. In
that area, I think what you are looking for is photorealist satellite
generated scenery and no one has done that for that area.

The best you could do to punch up the area would be:
Download the free FSGenesis 76 m mesh for Texas found at Avsim.com.
Buy Flight1's USARoads to put in accurate roads
And look for "landclass" upgrades for the USA area.
And search Avsim.com and Flightsim.com for specific freeware cities and
airports.

You didn't say which FS version you were flying but if it's FS2002 there
is a file called "Texas 80 airports" or something similar that is quite
nice. A guy from Louisiana created them from charts and pictures and he
did the regional airport here very much like it is IRL. I tried to get
the scenery working in FS9 but it won't work. :(

He was working on Louisiana Airports last I talked to him and he sent 7
airports to me. It's been a while so maybe more are finished. I should
write him.
