I have decided on getting this computer

Processor
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Toledo 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Model ADA4800CDBOX - Retail - 630

Ram
Corsair XMS 2GB RAM Kit- $220 + $40 mail in rebate

Motherboard
Asus A8N-SLI Premium- $166.99

Hard Drive-
Segate SATA II 300GB- $135.00

DVD Burner-
NEC DVD Burner- $38.99

Sound Card-
Creatve SB X-Fi - $121.00

Power supply:
Antec TruePower 2.0 550W $94.99

By looking at all of those parts, what would be your recommendation on a good video card.. one of the recommendations I got was

Video Card-
eVGA 256MB 7800GT x 2 (SLI) - $628.00 + $20 rebate on each one

Is this the best option? or would you go with something else.. thanks.

I have an eVGA 7800 GT CO, I think one would do just fine for you, or if you need that much graphics processing power one 7800GTX would be better, especially a 512MB, and cheaper (Two 7800GTs are not as fast as one 7800GTX in most cases). If you are going to buy now an eVGA is the way to go because the 7900s come out in two weeks and the ability to step-up to one of those through eVGA is a plus.

Someone will probably add go with the X1900X, that is an option too (really nice card for lots of money), but I think the 7900 will be atleast on par with that if not faster like nVidia claims. So I reccommend going with eVGA if you can't wait (like me) and if the 7900 is good enough to justify spending the extra bucks, you will have 90 days to upgrade. I'm hoping that by early May the 7900GT is down to like $400-$450 on eVGA's website so I can upgrade for like only $100-$150 then.

just agreeing :lol: dont wait for 7900, when it arrives it will probably be backordered like crazy and cost close to 800 because of the high demand, stick with the ati for now...

I think you should either do one of two things.
1.Wait for the 7900 to come out and get that that way you will have a great video card and be able to add another one if you need to "since your mobo is sli".
2.If you can't wait to get the 7900, get a different mobo that supports crossfire and get the x1900xt and add another later on.

planning to go xfire/sli in the future is a bad idea since better cards come out almost monthly that overpower the best sli config in a single card... but then again thats just my opinion/fact... get the fastest card on the market now and dont sli it until sli is a bigger improvment

well u see mexicans are a lovely people who are respected in america and help to keep americas economy afloat by getting paid 25 cents a day working at stores like walmart,taco bell, wendys, mcdonalds, burger king pretty much any place that requires a lot of work that americans dont want to do. also mexicans are excellent roofers, they can put a roof up in 20 minutes... they are rare, like a yellow drop in gnomergon, well in the computer world they are at least, they tend to spend there money on drugs and low riding kits, u can find them sitting on their "stoops" if u walk down your neighborhood... follow the loud music, and good luck to you! but fair warning! do not get too close! as they bite

in my opinion.. the 4800+ is a waste. Its a lotta extra memory for just 200mhz. I could be wrong but the difference between the 4400+ and the 4800+ is "200mhz" :D

:::Newegg comparison:::
4400+ ::: 458.00
4800+ ::: 630.00
Difference ::: $172

I think you could probably put the extra $172 into a GTX 512mb and once 7900s come out and prices drop, grab a second.
Your second option could be to move to ATI and grab a 1900XT

Just my opinion but its up to you.

so in your OP two 7800 GTX 256 wont do as good as a x1900xt or 7800 GTX 512.That is definetly not true.And if somehow it is i would LOVE to see the benchmarks for that.And i mean for motiple Apps.And atleast two places.since some places have very different setups thatn others.

Why the 4600+? Isn't that a crappier core than the 4400/4800+.

Both the 4800+ and the 4400+ are both "beasts of a chip". The only difference is the 4800+ has a 200mhz higher default clock. Like I said before $170 for 200mhz? Thats ridiculous. Yes its his money but consider you could put the 170 towards even something else.

Up to him.

that isnt what i said at all, what are u smoking? i said the price difference isnt worth the extra 20 fps. paying 400+ to sli one of the fastest cards on the market to get an extra 20 fps at highest res/AA/af IMO isnt worth the extra 400 bux, and i doubt it is for this guy either or anyone else with a brain and a walet that isnt full of 100's. i said get the top card now, which argurably is the x1900xtx, it is pitted aganist the 7800gtx512 and doesnt destroy, but beats it in many cases, and with a price tag thats 350ish less it makes the x1900xtx the best deal for top end pciexpress cards, at no point did i said that 2 7800gtx will be slower than a 1900xt, at no point did i even meantion a 1900xt. if my memory is right a 1900xtx is almost as fast as SLI'd 7800gtx's and for 150 less and since sli can be a hassle to install and get running properly. also the fact that (i forget i swear he got a store bought computer) the amount of power needed and the amount of heat produced is nearly doubled... maybe id recommend 7800gt dualcore but since thats 800ish dollars its not quite worth the money... recommending anything in the 600ish pricerange other than the best card which is currently the x1900xtx is just showing how ur a fanboy... im soon ull say that "atis drivers arnt as good as nvidia ones"

oh ok i understand completly now and i must correct my self a x1900xtx is better with AA and AF on and actually i am more of a ATI fanboy than Nvidia fanboy although i go by performance not name.so sorry for my wrong stament and get an x1900xtx.

lolz... i bet in 2 weeks when the 7900gtx is out ull say "ive alwasy been an nvidia fan" although the enquierer, although wrong a lot, said that the 7900gtx is just a 7800gtx with faster clocks and 512 memory... but then again... the enquierer said it.

Plus i dont believe this isnt your thread.So why am i talking to you?Well bryne i think you should go with the x1900xt cause the performance between the xt and the xtx verson is minumal.And you can just OC the xt to the xtx level.But if you have the money to spend then might as well go with the xtx.Hope that last sentence didnt confuse you cause it kinda did me.but i think you get the general idea,hopefully.

Honesty I like nvidia but the fact remains the 1900xt or xtx is a faster single card solution with no compromises. 2 weeks is not that long to wait to order a new card from nvidia which will most likely at the very least be equal to the 1900--- . Nvidia has had a while now to produce these chips and dont think there will be a supply problem. Most likely they have been making these chips and not the 7800gtx512.
