what is the story w/ this cpu the only place i see carring it is TD and it cost about as much as a 3800/4000. AMD website does not even show a sckt 939 on there! the only place google came up with for a comaprison wascompare but its in italian i think?

but from what i can pick up the sckt 939 can only use single channel mem while sckt 754 can use dual.
i see TG cpu guide has 3 3400's that even confuses me more.

Can someone set me straight and clu me in on how this cpu compares to whats out there?

Thanks

3400 is not used very much anymore...get a 3500.

The ram dual-channel/or not depends on mobo, not processor...of course s939 supports dual-channel!

Each processor has different cores, such as prescott or northwood.

well i was asking because its in a combo deal with a gigabyte ga-k8n51 for $199, so i was trying to research more on 3400 sck939 make sure it was not a total bust. The deal is suppose to be with a 3200 for $199 and $229 for the 3400.
was the 3400 sckt 939 so bad that amd cant even mention it on its website? why wouldnt they make the 3200 the red headed step child?

I am curios for more info, and why the hell is td selling it for such a high price

As far as all my info tells me (i went and googled "939 3400+") there was never a socket 939 3400+ chip, only S754.

but from what i can pick up the sckt 939 can only use single channel mem while sckt 754 can use dual.

Socket 939 motherboards support dual channel memory as well as Socket 754 motherboards.

The advantage of socket 939 over socket 754 is the fact that 939 is newer and 754 is getting phased out. So if you get a 939 mobo now with a 3200+ or something, then later on down the road, you can still use that 939 mobo to upgrade to an X2, Opteron or FX chip. I personally wouldnt bother getting a 754 anymore.

FYI, the s939 3400 was a special order chip for an OEM. That OEM decided not to use them, so dumped them on the open market.
If you can get Amd to honor the warranty, it would probably have started about 2 years ago, so would only have 1 year left.
The biggest problem with that chip is that most mobos do not have a bios that supports/ recognizes it.
While it does run natively faster than a 3200, and generally marginally out perf them, IMNSHO, it is not worth the extra money. If you OC, it really isn't worth getting at all.

i did not think they made a sckt939 3400 either till i saw it at the store and good luck finding information on it. basically its either a 3200 or a 3400 for the same price i wanted to see if it was worth it,
I dont even want to bother if the unsupported bios thing is true even though the cpu is a combo deal with mobo.

Its hard to explain but i dont want a 3200 as far as a 3400 i was figuring that it will work out till few after months after the next gen cpu's come out, then upgrade.
