Im trying to mount a micro-ATX mobo inside an ATX case. When I lay the mobo inside the ATX case, the cut outs in the case wall do not align with the connectors on the edge of the mobo. I am not even sure if the expansion slots in the mobo will align with the card slots in the case wall. Short of taking a Dremel saw and simply cutting out a large metal rectangle from the case wall to expose all mobo connectors, is there any way to adapt the ATX case to the micro-ATX mobo, or should I look for and buy another case that will allow a “drop in” fit where all the case cut outs align perfectly with the mobo connectors? (if such a case exists)?

the back panel should be able to be punched out. and take the panel from the other case or if its a new mobo take the back panel and place it in where the punched out panel was.

It has nothing to do with Micro ATX, the problem is the nut behind the keyboard.

If the case has a removable port plate, remove and replace it. If the case doesn't have a removable port plate, then even a full ATX version of the same board won't fit.

Basically, there were some OEM cases that supported only a certain port location. Motherboard makers have come out with hundreds of port layouts, leaving behind the old standard locations. They include a replacement port plate, which works in replacement cases, but often not in OEM cases.

If your case doesn't support replacing the port panel, well, you have a couple options: Cut a rectangular hole in the case, or buy a board with the same exact port layout. Even a Micro ATX board with the same exact port layout would work.

If you want specific advice you'll have to list your case model.
