Hi

I'm going to build a new pc and I don't know what ram to buy. I want 2 gigs of good ram, but I hesitate in which ram should I buy.

- OCZ DDR 500 gold edition, 3-4-3-8

- Corsair XMS series DDR 400, 2.5-3-3-6
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=15029&vpn=TW...

- OCZ platinum DDR 400, 2-3-2-5
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=14504&vpn=OC...

What is the more important: the frequency (ddr 400 vs ddr 500) or the timings? If you say that timings are more important I will buy the Corsair xms or the OCZ platinum ddr 400, but if you say that the frequency is more important, I should take the OCZ ddr 500 gold edition...

I would like to play games such as BF2, etc...

Can you help me please?

PS: sorry for my english

well if you have a athlon 64 processor or an opteron speed does not do much really, because of the onboard memory controler. I have that ocz 2 gig set with the 2-3-2-5 timings and it runs @ 215mhz with 2-2-2-5 timings with 2.7 volts :)

Go with the OCZ platinum DDR 400, 2-3-2-5. And make sure you use these settings to get the best performace. You are wasting your money with the DDR 500.

Thanks for the answer!

So I'll go with the OCZ ddr 400 platinum.

What about the Corsair xms? (it is cheaper)

Thanks again.

If you get the mail in rebate (from the link you had in your first post) then they will end up the same price. In this case I would definitely go with the OCZ memory. Corsair is good memory also, but I'd go with the OCZ because of the CL2 memory.

Personally i prefer corsair and id say its a bit cheaper.

If your an overclocker go with OCZ they allow you to overclock your memory and use higher voltages and not void your warranty. Also if you have a athlon 64/opteron processor you get better memory performace with tighter timings vs the higher htt/fsb speeds like with older p4 and athlon xp systems

Thanks

I'll definitely go with the OCZ platinum, I will have a athlon 64 3700+ and I plan to oc the ram a little bit (not too much, it will be my first time 8) .

Thanks again

Athlon 64/opteron prosessors you dont need to oc the memory, its best to have ultra tight timings than oc the memory and loosen the timings. Reason is because the a64/opterons have on board memory controler, instead of the old p4 and athlon xp where they have it build into the mobo (onboard memory is far far faster than the north bridge or whatever the motherboard has for memory access). Some people run there ddr400 @ddr333 speeds with 1.5-2-2-5 I stick with 2-2-2-5 @ ddr 400.
