That's a pretty sweet overclock! I see you've upped the voltage some, are you having any problems with heat with your watercooling? What's your temps?

Have you checked for processor throttling? Run Throttlewatch to make sure you aren't digging fools gold at these speeds (CPU throttling so the performance really isn't there)

why is the multiplier only 14 if it is a 3.4Ghz processor? My 3.0Ghz 530J I'm on right now has a multiplier of 15... A 3.4Ghz proc should have a multiplier of 17.

a lot of 478 P4 3.0e top out at around 4.0 ~ 4.2 Ghz. I top out at 4.01 @ 1.525v. I just sinked my mosfets and will try a higher voltage. Check the CPU voltage, ASUS is known for having a huge droop, that maybe the cause of instability or inability to increase your clock speed. NOTE!!! Prescotts suck A LOT of power and your mosfets will burn if not properly cooled.

Thx, how important is it? to properly cool them with a Prescott?

if the HSF is properly seated, P4's do not suffer from heat problems. At 4.2Ghz you are probably ok, if you aren't suffering from overheating. What temps are you at right now?

Find the temps first,... and if they are low, you should be able to go further on whatever cooler you got. :)

55C when under heavy load with Prime95
but after few hours of BF2 or oblivion, I've never seen it over 45C

My room temperature is ALWAYS below 20C

then you have an older Rev, likely C1 or something, (I have E0, and it's stock voltage is 1.3).

Anyways, the max voltage is likely 1.6 then, but I wouldn't go that high. 1.5 is the most I would do on that. Just up it to 1.45 volts and try 4.3Ghz and see if it works. :)

thx!
cpu-z for my prescott:
Family F
Ext. Family 0
Model 4
Ext. Model 0
Stepping 3
Revision N0

voltage is at 1.3 when running at 2.8 and 1.4 when running at 3.4
changing the multipliers depending on the system load...

ok so you have SpeedStep then? (aka EIST), if so disable it, if you can, and upping the voltage to 1.45 is worth a try, 1.5 is probably safe to try too, just remember to watch the temps, especially after increasing voltage.

oh, and you have a newer/different type processor than I do. You have N0 revision. Mine is E0. Yours is either of the 6xx series (mine is 530J), or you have a newer revision of the same type of processor as mine (530).

I don't know if the revision changes from model number to model number,... or if it is only a revision in the processor itself regardless of model number. :)

Can anybody help me with my overclocking? I hav a Prescott 640 Pentium 4 3.2Mhz Processor. I cant get the FSB past 223mhz. I dont think its the memory as im running it at 1:1 and its DDR2-533mhz. Any ideas?

Lack of power? PDU low wattage?
Type of RAM? Does the memory modules have heatsinks?
Overheat due to CPU low heat dissipation?
Not enough voltage? (read posts above)

After quite a few hours of reading on the web i came across a guy who put up his pci-e from 100mhz to 118mhz. I increased mine to 110mhz. I can now increase FSB to 225mhz no probs. So now my Prescott runs at 3.6Ghz. How much more could i get from my 3.2ghz Prescott? I don't wanna keep upping it till it f**ks. The temps when overclocked are 35 idel - 47 load. Stock heatsink/fan.
