Hi Guys,
Last night I built new system using a Asus AN8-SLI motherboard, it booted fine and everything before I left it.
Today I decided to redo the front audio panels because I got them incorrect. I plugged in the power and the all the fans would spin for about 5 seconds and shut down, no beeps or video or anything. First I found that strange as it should not power the fans when you first plug in the power cable. I tried hitting the power and it would not start at all.
Now the funny thing is when I unplug the 12v 4 pin connector and plug in the main the fans will keep running, again no beeps or video signal and the power switch will not turn it off.
The motherboard light is green
I seem to have shorted something, has anyone run into this problem know a fix?
I'd remove the mb from the case, and set it on top of a non-conductive piece of plastic or cardboard...
Test it with only the video card installed (ensure video card has it's aux input molex conected, if applicable), and one DDR module (in a correct slot for single stick operation), and the cpu itself properly installed, of course, with good seating of heatsink and thermal paste applied to core (remove tape from heatsink, if any was on there, please!)
The only wires/connectors that should be conected to the mb initially must be (ensure PS is off at rear and unplugged for greatest safety):
ATX power (24 pin)
CPU supplemental power (atx12v line, 4 pin)
CPu fan to the correct header on mb
ATX pwr switch to mb
----------------------
With a monitor connected to video card, see if it now POSTS when powered on....
If so, check that you only have mb standoffs mounted in case exactly where they need to be for your particular mb...
As this problem only arose when you started hooking up audio lines, we will hope it is just a minor cabling problem...
Problem solved!
It was actually the power switch cable. The mobo was receiving a continual signal thus when I plugged it in the power connector it would automatically start and also turn off in 5 secs because it thought the power switch was being held.
I wiggled the power connection on the switch and now its all good
