I will soon have a new gaming rig with an Athlon 64 3700+ CPU. Now i spent a lot of time trying to decide between the 3700+ or the 130euro more 4000+ and eventually ended up ordering the 3700. I've been slightly regretful ever since and am starting to think that maybe i should have waited a bit longer and just ordered the 4000! The CPU hasnt arrived yet so i have had no experience with it and so would like some opinions on the differences between the two, and is there much of a difference in performance? Thanks for reading.
You saved yourself money. The 3700+ is a little slower then the 4000+ but a little 10% overclock from 200MHz FSB to 218MHz FSB will bring you to 2400MHz exactly. Then the 3700+ will be just as good as the 4000+, dare say even better if you go to 220MHz (2420MHz). Don't feel regretful, the 3700+ is a great chip.
If anybody wishes to "correct" or say "you're wrong", go ahead, I only have used both chips in a variety of systems, but hey, what do I know.
i have the 3700 and have it over clocked to 2607mhz
it runs at 2200 stock the 4000 runs at 2400 stock i cant see any diff
both are sandy cores 64+64l1cache and 1024l2 cache
if you had both next to each other you prob couldnt tell any diff
sorry i mean i cant tell a diff with my 3700 at 2200 or 2600
my brother has a 3500 clawhammer with 512 l2 cache the rest of his sys is similar to mine and there is much diff in games or anything else
I just bought the 4000+. After an OC on that chip (230 FSB) the 3700 is eating weenies!!! While you can get the 3700 up to the 4000+ in performanceby OC'ing you cant get it to perform with a 4000+ that has been OC'd. Make sure you compare apples and apples.
