The way I look at it - Four things that will speed up you system - CPU - Video Card 8)
- Memory - Speed and type of hard drive.
What motherboard are you using? I would recommend a board that supports SATA II, and install a SATA II Hard Drive. The motherboard should be able to hold at least 4GB - Dual Channel.
Sometimes if you change one item on your system you may or may-not see a big performance gain. With the 4000+ you have AMD's best single core (Non FX Series) processor. You will see a difference between the 3700+ and the 4000+.
Are you kidding? Of COURSE get the first choice. 200MHz of measly clock speed compared to a HUGE increase in graphics power. You won't notice the difference between those processors, however, you will CERTAINLY notice the difference between those graphics cards.
Yes, I meant to say first choice and not second. I edited my post so you can relax now
I was speaking to the other person, sorry if I didn't clarify that....
I still recommend the 4000+ since the prices on this cpu is about as low as its going to get until the next release of AMD CPU. The X1900 video card is new and is at it's highest price now - in a few months you should see the prices fall. The savings will allow him to get a new motherboard (if needed) or just pocket the cash he would spend. Its the reason he is asking the question - if he had they money he would then get the 4000+ and the X1900
Thanks for the advice ad sorry for the typo (37000). Should I wait a few months (maybe until beginning of May) to see if the prices drop and buy the AMD4000 & de ATI X1900XTX?
Yup.
X1900 is much better than the X850 and will be slowed down by the CPU. Unless you OC,i'd say get a 4000 and a 1900XT(not XTX).
If you OC a cheap single core opteron will suffice.

If you do that then you will keep waiting. By then there will be something bigger and better. I would get what you can afford now and maybe ad on later. The 4000+ is you best buy right now and the video card will come down in prices later (but then there will be something else). I do not expect the 4000+ to drop much in the next 6 months so as I stated before the 4000+ should be the CPU choice (depending on your budget). Yes the video card makes a big difference when playing games (how much is over-kill) but so does the CPU. If you are or going to be a hard core gamer then you will be upgrading video cards often. Good luck and when it all comes down to it - get what you want :!:
3700+ and x1900xt(X) (whichever u can afford) dont listen to the idiots saying to buy a 4000+, for the extra, i duno what the diff is i imagine its over 50 dollars more, the 3700 has only 200mhz slower clocks, it does have the 1 meg of cache, get the 3700, oc 200 mhz (u wont even have to, its a FAST chip) and get the x1900, its WAY better than the x850, thats old tech taht doesnt support sm3.0.

First of all no need to call people idiots - since you know nothing of the individual.
To correct your statement that the 4000+ does not have 1MB cache. Refer to AMD sight:
First the difference between the 3700 and the 4000 is $121.00 and both of them have 1MB L2 cache. I posted this because a want your opinion not to be insulted or see poster insult each other. I think will follow your advice and buy de 3700 and then overclock it and the X1900XT and overclock it too.
i said that, i was comparing the 3700 and 4000, comparing that it was the saem core, same cache, just clocked 200 mhz slower, if he wants to game, he will be MUCH happier with the 3700 and x1900(any flavor) i wasnt calling u an idiot, i was calling the idea stupid. theres no reason to buy the fastest chip if hes willing to oc a SMALL amount to match perforamnce of a chip thats over 50 dollars more, i cant believe ur actually argueing over this, ur saying taht its worth the extra 50+ dollars for 200mhz which will show 0% difference in games, whereas the x1900 is probably a good 60% faster than the x850 with AA and AF, it really is no contest. but the person who made this thread needs to be more specific, if hes gaming, encoding, or anything other. for gaming, id recommend a 3500+ and overclock it, the extra 512cache = about 200mhz, a 3500 will pretty easily overclock to 2.6, making it about as fast as a stock 4000+ (if the 512cache = 200mhz thing is actually true) but between the 2 things u posted, its no contest, no matter what ur doing (as long as ur willing to do a small amount of oc'ing) 3700+ and x1900xt(x) is best choice hands down. now to decide between a x1900xt and xtx... x1900xt... if u plan to overclock, if u dont wanna risk it (not really a big risk...) id say the x1900xtx if u can afford it, either way u wont be disapointed with that setup, with a 4000+ and x850xt u will be, because ull go to play hl2 lost coast and turn on HDR to find ur card maxing out at 60fps looking at a wall, the x1900xt will eat that game up and beg for more boasting above 80fps average
