It does depend where you are going to fly. FSGenesis does the best mesh for
many parts of the world.
For the UK, VFR Terrain by Visualflight is the best out there as far as I
know (and it's more than just a mesh, coastlines and lakes are corrected
also).

fs genesis could be good, the US alone appears to be about $60, yikes!

That's only if one purchases each bit of mesh individually. FSGenesis
does offer what are called "Galaxy" memberships as well, which, if
global coverage with high quality mesh is desired, are quite a good
deal (and brings the actual cost of individual "parcels" down to a
very low price indeed). Additionally, Justin updates/fixes his mesh
releases as new and better source material becomes available and/or
if problems are found that can be reasonably fixed. This is the kind
of ongoing development and support that makes paying for FSGenesis
mesh a very reasonable proposition.
I would also add here that anything produced by Holger Sandmann, be it
his freeware offerings or his payware (like the spectacular recently
released "Misty Fjords" from FSAddon), is a very good investment in
combined enhanced mesh and sceneries. Holger combines detailed mesh
with hand painted scenery corrections/enhancements in a way that
greatly enhances both accuracy and beauty. He also works hard to
develop products that don't conflict with other high quality
offerings like the FSGenesis mesh.
Finally, I should mention that there is some high quality freeware
mesh available (even from FSGenesis and Holger), though one must be
aware that there is some freeware mesh that isn't of the greatest
quality as well. Also, freeware products are understandably offered
"as is", and in most cases, updates/fixes are not to be expected.

Has anyone tried the RealScene DVD enhancement of the USA? I believe it
sells on Avsim for $39.95 USD. If so, any opinions??

Yeah...there is one called Global Terrain which is also a DVD set. I think
the cost is $59.95 USD and it's about 16 gigs. Covers the whole globe.
Frankly, I don't think there's many people who have DVD drives built into
their computers. I have one and was thinking of trying the U.S.A. program
just to be different. I'll let everyone know how my adventure unfolds.

Justin gets my vote. What a difference the 38m terrain made to my sim
experience. I just wish that I had that kind of resolution for the entire
world (or better)
I'm thinking Justin is working on it....his discounts and updates show his
commitment...

Hi Martin,
Following your hint, I began downloading but I started with the Alps
and compared Pietro Mauri's freeware with this one. Well, my
conclusion is: let it be. The Matterhorn looks like a molehill - not
much better than Microsoft's version. :-(

OK. I downloaded it but had not yet installed it. Don't think I'll bother
then!
2. It doesn't say this on the FS Genesis website, but you can download
their US mesh for free from flightsim.com.
3. If you want a lot of mesh, consider World Extreme Landscapes
http://abacuspub.com/wel/ The mesh is made by FS Genesis, it covers the
whole world, it comes on DVD, and it's only $30 (US). A very good deal.

Hey everybody
With regards to the FSGenisis, I have already preordered my copy of
Megascenery Dallas Fort Worth, and was wondering if there would be a
compatibility issue. I assume if I just placed MegaScenery higher on
the priorites list, there wouldn't be, but any thoughts?
Thanks
Cameron
