I'm trying to use pocket ie to display chinese text (I've installed a custom
chinese font) and all displays very well - except for one detail... word wrap
doesn't seem to be working.

I have tested this quite extensively - and have found that in a native
Chinese pocket pc device (my friend in Taiwan tested for me) running Windows
Mobile 2003 the chinese wraps fine. I've been testing with Windows Mobile
2003 SE and cannot get the chinese to wrap.

One last note - the chinese is being displayed as UTF-8... More details can
be given if necessary, I'm hoping someone out there already knows of this,
and there is some simple solution. Thanks in advance.

Word wrap (fit to screen) is dependant on the page itself not specifying
the width or format.

Suggest that you go to a page where word wrap works such as
http://BevHoward.com/bhhpj.htm to see it in action and go back to the
pages where it doesn't to learn more.

Let me be more specific... I have had no issues viewing english, or any other
latin based character set sites on my ppc - the issue is viewing chinese
based websites (either big5 charsets or utf-8 charsets). Of course your site
wraps fine - as do myriads of sites in english out there...

Here are two examples of the specific probelm I am having:

http://faculty.virginia.edu/cll/ch [...] etter.html (big5)
http://www.ldschinese.com/library/ [...] index.html (utf-8)

Both of these show up fine, and wrap just fine in a full-blown version of
IE. Neither of these pages wraps properly in Pocket IE. My assumption is
that Pocket IE in the english based Windows Mobile 2003 OS doesn't know how
to properly wrap chinese texts (and other texts I would guess as well). It
appears since chinese does not have spaces between words, the browser decides
to not wrap until the next space or <p> or <br> is met. This is a BUG...

I have a friend who has a ppc he purchased in Taiwan that has no problems
viewing these sites on his ppc... what is the difference?

Of course - you'll need chinese fonts installed, and chinese display support
installed before being able to view either of those pages in normal windows,
or in windows mobile...

Any assistance with this problem would be much appreciated. A related issue
is that programs using the IE display engine suffer from the same bug - which
is the core issue I'm trying to resolve.

Thanks! -Todd

(Think I am about to get educated in Chinese fonts.)

Quick look confirms that there is no apparent reason in the html such as
width statements that would cause wrap problems.

However, it also appears that there is no spacing between the characters
and no space at what appears to be the end of sentences... the only
spaces are the indents, so my first suspect would be that the wrapping
is looking for <space> characters to determine where to break lines,
and, since there are none, the line doesn't qualify as wrappable.
