I'm considering painting some of the internal components, and I had a couple questions...

1. Is there a type of paint you'd recommend for cables? Something flexible?

2. Aside from likely voiding the warranties, is there any reason with proper masking to avoid painting DVD and floppy drives (the drive body itself, not the bezel).

3. Has anyone tried using a non-conductive paint directly on circuit boards and/or electronic components?

No. But if you can get to a hardware store like Lowes or Home Depot, there is a type of paint (comes in spray cans, I think) that can andhere to plastic and is flexible when dry

I would say it's a waste of paint. You should completely disassemble the drive-- forget about "masking".

I haven't
