During the last couple of years I have amassed 4 250GB SATA drives that are sitting idly. What options do I have for making use of them? My computer case will not support them, since it is small and has no spare slots. Network use would be preferable but not required.
All suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanx
are you looking for another pc to put those in or external storage? I have a PCI SATA card that has 2 internal and 2 external ports + a eSATA enclosure for a SATA drive that im selling. The eSATA enclosure has an SATA internal interface and external SATA interface.
I use external drives a lot and have owned / evaluated several cases. Eventually I discovered this VENUS series available at NewEgg.Com. They are "really nice" with a super quiet cooling fan in the bottom tray. They have several varieties for IDE or SATA drives that connect various ways including USB / Firewire (a combo I like) or like this one here which connects via USB or SATA connector.
You'll see one review from a fellow who goes off the deep end because he thinks the "external" connection language is abused and he goes on to explain what he thinks a "genuine" external SATA connection would look like, but the bottom line is, you can connect your SATA HD via USB 2 or via a standard SATA connector.
I've bought four of these VENUS cases in various configurations and now recommend them to friends who purchased units also. Everyone loves them. So quiet, very reliable. WinXP install if simply Plug n Play.
Worth your consideration if all you need to do if find a versatile way to connect some external HDs.
You'll get a better idea of the general quality and reliability of VENUS enclosures if you look on NewEgg for the VENUS external IDE HDD models ... where tons have been sold and there are a lot of reviews for you to browse.
Thanx 4 the answers guyz.
I looked at your proposals and think I would like to find an external case to house 4 SATA HDDs (RAID 1 or JBOD), USB or Firewire 400 or 800 or something similar.
