The best instore laptop that I can buy comes with a Nvidia 7300go 256mb card. Doing some research it seems like that card is even slower than a 9800pro 128mb card from ati. I got a couple questions regarding this:

1. I am wondering is the nvidia 7300 much better than a 9800pro or even what I have on my desktop x800xt since the nvidia card is the next series of cards (7000)?

2. Will I be able to play games at the same or faster quality/speed as my desktop card (x800xt)

Thanks so much

7300 is a budget, low end card. The X800XT will easily pound that. Opt for a 6800 series card or a 7800 series card, or an X1800/X1600.

I don't think anyone who has replied has actually understood your question. I don't know the answer, but i will clarify your post better.

He is asking this:

If he buys a new laptop that has a GoForce7300 based video chip, how will it compare to his desktop which is running an X800XT. He is NOT looking to upgrade his desktop video card: he is buying a laptop & wants to know if games will run as well on it as they do on his desktop.

Maybe I should clarify some of the responses. (Read Prozac's above yours to get the same).

The GF7300 will SUCK for gaming compared to his desktop, as he asks.

Getting a GF6800GO or GF7800GO or Mobility Radeon X1600/X1800 laptop version would be a far better choice.

Better still, make your laptop a producticity tool, buy the cheapest that will do the stuff you NEED a laptop to do (watch movies, surf, e-mail, office, etc), and take the savings and upgrade your desktop to make it an even better rig.

No card below a GF6800/7800GO Mobility Radeon X800-X1800 will run anywhere near his desktop.

Now the best answer would be to FORGET the best INSTORE, and buy online if you're looking for a gaming laptop. While the GF7300 will be 'OK' at games (similar to my MRX700) you can likely put together a far better rig online than you'd buy from the store.
