HTT In BIOS

Hi,

I have a MSI K8N Neo2-FX (NForce 3 - 250GB) that used to have an older Athlon 64 3000+ in it. I recently was given (yay) a X2 4400+ which runs fine in the motherboard, my only concern is the HTT multiplier available in the BIOS. I am only able to go up to 4X which means HTT only runs at 800. I see that the X2 4400+ should run at 1000Mhz (5x HTT). Will this greatly impact on the performance of the 4400+? I have flashed with the latest BIOS from MSI. The reason i have for sticking with this mobo is because it has AGP, and for now, it needs to stay that way. I do not want to upgrade the graphics card for the next 6-8 months.

You will certainly not be getting the most from your CPU running at 800 FSB, but that mobo is not capable of 1000 FSB.

There is only 1 mobo I know of that will support 1000 FSB and AGP on nForce 4, and that is the Biostar NF4UL-A9 (supports AGP and PCI-E). However, it does not support all AGP graphics cards. Best to check before considering this as an option. I'm also not sure on the price of this mobo.

There is little impact of HTT multiples (4 vs. 5) on performance; I'd not worry about it.....at all.

The HTT bus is very underutilized. I don't know what the actual usage % is of HTT but i'd SPECULATE its only 60% at full speed so at 80% of normal speed your more than ok. No worries, I think mine is acctually underclocked too lol.

thanks for the replies so far. It's a nice speedup from the 3200+ anyway, so when i do upgrade my video card, it'll be along the lines of a 7800GTX so i'll need the PCI-E mobo anyway. until then, this will have to do. Thanks for your replies. much appreciated.
